Why I Stopped Going To The Gym!

So yes I hate the gym but not because of the exercises, weights or fitness equipment, but because I love the outdoors so much more. For many years I would go the the gym religiously but when running on a treadmill, cycling a stationary bike or lifting weights I would just find myself staring out of the windows and wanting to get outside.

Outdoors exercise gives me the feeling of being alive and finding a connection with nature and my environment which can't be met inside the four walls of a sweaty building. Even on a wet and cold day in Devon I always prefer to be out in the fresh air.

Exercising outdoors lowers your blood pressure, relieves stress and increases your exposure to sunlight and Vitamin D all of which benefit your body and mind.

Whenever possible I try to work outside with my personal training clients in their gardens, a nearby park or beach. My bootcamp and running groups train outside whatever the weather and even on a really rainy day they battle the elements, have fun and feel a sense of achievement. So I would encourage everyone to try and get out more whether its a bike ride, outdoor swim, run, walk, hike or weight training session you wont regret it.
